Do I need Bible College training?
It’s a good question. Especially, if you
expect to be primarily engaged in practical ministry. We’ve all heard
stories of people who’ve had negative experiences of Bible College.
But if you want to be ready for the opportunities that will arise in
wholistic mission, you’ll want to give it some serious thought.
The
right kind of Bible College doesn’t fill you up with facts and
knowledge alone – it helps you to solidify your Christian worldview.
This is critical in cross-cultural mission where one of the biggest
challenges is to bring a biblical world view to a unique local
context. You’ll encounter incredible diversity and discover your job
isn’t to make people into Australians! The challenge is to allow the
local context to express its diversity within the boundaries of a
biblically authentic Christian worldview. Often this will take a lot
more than knowledge – you’ll be tested in the kind of ministry skills
that are taught in Bible colleges, including counseling, volunteer
development etc
