South Asia provides an intoxicating mix of cultures and peoples in one of the most heavily populated parts of the world. It is the ancient birthplace to both Hinduism and Buddhism, with the former prevalent throughout India and Nepal. Islam is dominant in Pakistan and Bangladesh, while Muslims comprise a substantial minority in India. Economic growth has brought considerable change to the region, particularly in parts of India where IT, education, and transport infrastructure are making their mark. Despite this, the majority of people throughout South Asia live in desperate poverty. There are many fulfilling opportunities to bring practical and spiritual hope to needy people, who again number in the hundreds of millions.
